| ¾ cup butter (softened) | 
| 1 cup dark brown sugar (packed) | 
| 1 egg | 
| ¼ cup molasses | 
| 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour | 
| ¼ tsp. salt | 
| 2 tsps. baking soda | 
| 1 tsp. ground cinnamon | 
| ½ tsp. ground ginger | 
| ½ tsp. ground cloves | 
| ½ tsp. ground allspice | 
| Granulated sugar for rolling dough | 
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- Cream butter and brown sugar until smooth and fluffy.
 - Add egg and molasses to butter mixture and cream until smooth.
 - In a separate bowl, sift dry ingredients.
 - Slowly add dry ingredients to butter mixture and mix together.
 - Form balls (I use a melon baller) and roll in granulated white sugar.
 - Place on cookie sheet, 2 inches apart.
 - Bake 11 to 13 minutes. (I bake at 360 in my gas oven for 11 min.)
 - Remove and place on cooling rack.
